VALUES STATEMENT

The OMSOC values support our belief that well being can be achieved by:

Prevention

Effective prevention programs supported by employers and employees will mitigate the potential adverse health impacts of illness and injury.

Collaboration

Working with other physicians and community stakeholders (labour, employers, government, compensation boards and the insurance sector) to maximize the contribution that occupational medicine can make to worker well-being.

Understanding

Understanding the determinants of health in the workplace and evidence-based best practices in occupational medicine.

Enabling

Removing barriers to work for those with impairment, to provide a safe, supportive, and dignified work environment.

Integrity

Responding to workplace issues in a manner that is independent of the organization or individual requesting the response.

Vision Statement

Workplaces where the health and safety of employees are continually improved through the specialty practice of occupational medicine.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Occupational Medicine Specialists of Canada is to promote and enhance the specialty practice of occupational medicine in Canada, a specialty recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, to promote and support continuing professional development for specialists through the accreditation of continuing medical education activities, and to act as the Canadian voice for that specialty.

ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION

OMSOC is Canada’s only medical society devoted to the specialty practice of occupational medicine. OMSOC brings together occupational medicine specialists and physicians from other specialties with an interest in occupational medicine to advise on health policy, encourage discussion and collaboration amongst stakeholders with whom OMSOC’s members interact, including physicians, employers, labour groups, and other allied health professionals, and to advance the specialty practice of occupational medicine through conferences and the training of future occupational medicine specialists.

The Occupational Medicine Specialists of Canada is the recognized National Specialty Society for Occupational Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
